Homosassa/Crystal River Gator Trout Time

Hot Dog!!!! Spring is finally here and not a minute too soon. With the recent warming trend the bay temps have reached 70 and the big gator trout have heated up and turned on big time. Monday, I fished with the Ron Henry party from The Villages and Summerfield and boy did the trout cooperate. We caught well over 42 trout and most were in the 18-22 inch size with very few undersized fish. The trip was Ron senior?s birthday present and he and Ron junior (pictured here) along with friend, Billy had a super day. I thought I knew a lot of humorous stories and yarns, but Ron Sr. had me beat. We spent the day laughing and catchin? fish and enjoying each other?s company.

The weather was perfect. Air temperature was 74, gentle breezes from the northeast at about 7 knots, bluebird skies, low humidity, clear water and plenty of hungry fish. Overhead in the azure blue sky were jet trails crisscrossing the atmosphere, some intersecting with each other making X?s as to mark a spot where the fish were biting. And, Son, there were plenty of X?s!!
A day like this is a guide?s dream. As a matter of fact, a day like this is any fisherman?s dream.

As I learned more about Ron Henry Sr., the more respect and admiration I gained for him. He fought for us and this country in Korea and was wounded several times. The most severe was a rifle shot to the head which almost took his life. Thanks from all of us Ron for your sacrifice and courage.

If this weather holds, the fishing should remain outstanding. The Redfish bite is good and will only get better. The Grouper, Spanish Mackerel, Bluefish, Pompano, Shark, Cobia, and Tarpon will be showing up in numbers and a day?s trip can target several species. Give me a call to book a trip. We are booking tarpon trips for May, June and July. If you are interested in catching one of these giant, silver kings, better reserve a date before they are all gone.

Take a kid fishing, ?cause a child?s smile and a good day fishing is the best medicine for what ever ails ya.
