Tarpon, Cobia, Redfish a plenty!!!
Report Date: May 19, 2003
Recent trips have resulted in a mixed bag of fish from the Homosassa/Crystal River flats. From Cobia, Redfish, Spanish Mackerel, and shark caught by Mike Mancinik and his wife, , Sharks caught by my new friends from Holland, William and Klaus, Trout by Steve McQueen and Kirk Riddle, more Trout by Roger and Cindy Lauderville of Lakeland, Tarpon by Mike Hreha, more Tarpon by John and Steve from Penn., and Bluefish and Trout by the Hooten?s from Sumter county. My ol? friend Jeff Beckett and daughter, Shannon had a great day catching Cobia, Sharks, Ladyfish, Jacks and Reds. Annual angler friend, Vinnie and son Nick fished two days with me and caught Redfish, Trout, a big shark by Nick and others.
But the top angler so far this month has to be 6 year old Brendan Hooten. Fishing with his Dad, Joey and Granpa Wayne, Single handedly he landed Trout and Bluefish all day. As a matter of fact, he was so good, (well, how good was he?) he caught two Bluefish on the same plug. Using a Mirrorlure Top Dog, he had one on each set of treble hooks! Way to go Brenden.
Here is a neat picture of three generations of the Hooten?s. Note the big smiles.
The Flats in our neck of the woods are alive and teeming with all kinds of fish. Tarpon have shown up in good numbers. Cobia are plentiful this year and the Redfish are beginning to school up in large numbers. So, if you want to come out with us and catch your share of the fish just drop me an email or call me at 352-629-9684 to book your trip.

Scallop season opens July 1st, so plan on booking a scallop/snorkeling trip with me. We will be doing 4 hour trips for up to 4. Or a full day of Redfishing and Scalloping combined. There are plenty of scallops this year. We see them on all our fishing charters in the gin clear waters of 2-4 feet. Just ask John and Sharon Beverly of Orlando. They couldn?t believe how clear the water was and how many scallops they saw from the boat as they fished. We have a few secret places, so, give me a call, bring a picnic lunch and make a family trip out of it.
Tarpon/Redfish trips have been popular in recent years. We combine a half day fishing for the elusive and powerful, Tarpon and then finish the day with light tackle or fly fishing for Redfish- Two of the hardest fighting fish in their respective classes you will experience.
Whatever you want to fish for, now is the time to go!!
Until later,
Captain Ed Lewis
