Red Hot fishing!!!!
Report Date: August 12, 2003
Now that some of our tropical weather has cleared out, and we are back into our summer pattern, it's back to fishing. Amazingly, the afternoon storms actually have helped most fishing. With the much needed rains and overcast days, the water temp dropped some on the flats. This has brought bait fish many species back inside, like trout, spanish mackerel, cobia and grouper.
Yesterday, while fishing with Mark Small and his father in law, we caught a mixed bag of redfish, trout, spanish mackerel, mangrove snapper, ladyfish, jack crevalle and sea bass. The weather was a cool 84 degrees, overcast, gentle breezes and great catchin'.
From now through the end of the year is some of the best fishing on our Homosassa and Crystal River flats. Big Redfish and trout are plentiful. The inshore grouper fishing will heat up with cooler weather. I'm talking catchin' grouper in 8-10 feet of water, around rocks with plugs. Awsome!!! The schools of mackerel and cobia will be migrating through and there is always tarpon in the rivers.
There are still plenty of scallops to be had before the season closes in mid Sept. On our recent trips we have gotten our limits in no time.
The Redfish/Scallop trips are hot right now. Catch redfish on light tackle, then cool off by snorkeling for scallops in the clear gulf waters.
So, if ya want some line screamin' and rod bendin' action, or some tasty scallops, give me a call or email and book your trip now.
It don't get no better than this.
Until later.....
Captain Ed Lewis
